Very soon we will begin the summer harvesting of tomatoes and I cannot wait. Wilth the cool wet summer in the south the tomatoes took a while to make, and I have experienced a bit of blossom drop and lack of blossoms, but the tips I have received, calcium, fish emulsions, have helped and I have a nice crop coming. How are yours coming?

My tomatoes are just now starting to come in, and finally ripen.

Those look great!

My 10 foot "Husky Cherry Red" hybrids from the plant scientists at Wal-Mart have grown like the Dickens on my (low sun) patio. Lotsa leaves - few fruit.

I can't complain much though. I think my total investment was about $25....and with luck I'll get $15 worth of home grown tomatos. That's OK - the vitamins and taste are better. There are lots of baby fruit and blooms too.... so I could have a September Bonanza!

Well - no September Bonanza....all that work and I am getting about four cherry tomatoes a week. I won't do the "Husky Cherry Reds" again - since they aren't husky and the fruit is just standard cherries. Ce' est la vie.

I would love some seeds! Arbuzzi looks beautiful! Ceriac Noir..never heard of it!

I'm not into indeterminate type of tomatoes. I prefer the early bush types and plant them every month from May-August.
I think the wait is not worth it. Here we can plant cherry tomatoes early and they will still pump out in Christmas!
I recommend planting just ONE of each in May; a cherry, a roma and a Glacier, repeat in June with another variety..etc.
Then you'll have a reward before too long.

Those are some great looking tomatoes Crevette....do you save seeds from them?

Those are simply gorgeous! The indeterminates are so hard to contain, this year they were just wild. But I do love the produce. I will try some of the bush types next year along with fewer indeterminates. My production is slowing down and I am almost caught up with canning. We will have fresh through September, but i am doubtful there will be much past that. Am pulling up and planing chard, kale, another squash and have a few beans and peas already out there. We actually need some rain now to get that production up and growing.

You do not irrigate manually?

I do, but am just barley keeping up with what is on my plate and am hoping for a hand from Mother Nature. All we need is 1 good soaking, but alas, it does seem like I will need to drag the garden hose out there!

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
