Trying figure out what kind of plant this is ?

Can you please help figure out what this is , it came-up last year where I had planted some seed and for got what I planted. i thought it was a pumpkin last year...but was wrong , the we tilled and made a dirt pile from just behind this year's garden and these sprung -up again! Help are these a food? it looks like some kind of squash .Thanx in Advance!

Hmm, not pumpkin, huh? That would have been my first guess. Definitely something in that family.... Interesting variagation on the leaves. Could that be a clue? Wish I could help you out here, but I think you're on the right track with squash. We threw a rotten pumpkin on a pile of lawn thatch in the corner of the yard a couple of years ago and the next year we had pumkin vines growing there like crazy. Good luck.

Not sure if that is variegation or from too much water, they started out all green. And we have had LOTS of rain since May!! Thanx fo trying to help!!

It looks like some sort of squash or melon. If you planted cucurbits last year, this could be a cross of something. I'm sure whatever fruit you get will be edible, but I can't guarantee it will taste good!

One thing you might want to do though, is spray some Serenade on the leaves. Cuz it looks like the plant has downy mildew.

Looks to be a lemon cucumber. I planted them years ago, cut one of the fruits open and smell it, if it smnells like a cucumber then its a lemon cucumber...Chris

Last year we did the same thing !! We had squash, zuchinni and pumpkins growing still and plowed them all under to get ready for fall garden !! What came up was a cross between all three !! What they looked like depended on where they grew !! If toward the front of the garden they looked more squash like but shaped like a butternut squash !! If toward the back they were more like a pumpkin !! The taste was sweeter than a squash and delicious when cooked with onions and butter !! Other than that, did you plant vine peach by any chance ? A few of my hybrids have the same spots on the leaves but its not hurting the plants !! Don`t think its mildew, just a lot of water !!

Downy Mildew is pretty common in cucurbits. I had it last year, and it looked exactly like that.

Joy, define weird. I tried it when I posted the link, and I just tried it again, and it comes up an image of yellow cucumbers on a trellis.
