Waiting for this season, that one, the next
Each brings with and leaves behind
harvest desires.

In the winter, I do not want tomatos,
I crave kale and leeks and roots.
And in summers long, warm hours
We eat directly from the earth.

rain, rain, rain, rain, rain

Sandra,
This group is a place where we can post our own original garden poetry; but perhaps we can also share the occassional poem of the poetry masters - for inspiration, for guidance, and for the sheer beauty of the masterful way in which they wove their words together to paint pictures that still can move us today.

And, is it okay if we break it up into 4 discussion categories of seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter? That would make it easier for folks to find the kind of poetry they're looking for, don't you think?

Please let me know your opinion. Thanks. mwf

IT's May!!!!

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la!

I guess I'll have to dust off my album and bring out my work. I tend to be inspired by the fall and winter though, not spring. I'll see what I can contribute. Thanks for the invitation to join.

Wow, this is great! I'm attempting to garden on a boat (we liveaboard in the summer) and I was thinking of doing something like this on a small skiff next to it...Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Letti Thanks for the info about the contaminated manure. I have not bought manure now for several years in the UK. This was since we had the foot & mouth and BSE scares. I think that municipal compost is your best bet, if you need to say bulk up…

Hi Kirsti I think the dingy idea seems feasable. Then the plants would be out of the way of day to day activities. Have you seen Margy,s floating garden pictures. Yours would be a variation on that theme.

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
