I sell herbs, mints, and perennials at the Johnson City Farmers Market. This was my first year. I didn't do great, but I've learned a lot and know I will do better next year. Lotta work, but I love it. Have met some really great people, too. The JC Farmers Market is really growing. It's a lot bigger than it was just a few years ago. I'm also going to be on the board as the secretary for 2010. They're already planning all kinds of new events for next year that will bring in even more people. I visited our local farmers' market this morning for the first time this season. It's a very small market that was started last year. There were only about 6 vendors there this morning, but the selections were great, and very reasonably priced. So even though I'm growing a lot of my own veggies, I purchased some this morning that I'm not doing so well with at home. I bought bell peppers, hot banana peppers, baby leeks, and okra. In every case but the leeks, I bought all that the vendor had. They were happy to give me a good deal on the price in order to sell it all so they wouldn't have to take any home. And I'm happy!! Even though it looks like I'm going to be in the kitchen processing food for days!!

Scads of lettuce, and this week will be the last for spinach - it is bolting already (not that I'm surprised, it always does at this time of year). Broccoli about to start but SOMEBODY is eating it badly even with my new deer fence. Maybe a woodchuck (in the garden, not at the market!). Beets are coming on, too.

Has anybody taken anything to a Farmers' Market to sell yet? I haven't had enough of anything to do so myself. What about you?

I'm planning a big trip to the market tomorrow :D I'm hoping strawberry season is in full swing, but either way I'm sure I'll come home with lots of great finds :)

That's wonderful Sue! I was going to ask what you do with the produce that doesn't sell, but you already answered the question. It's great to know you're sharing your bounty. I haven't been able to harvest enough of anything yet to sell, but I think I'll be in bumper crop heaven in a few weeks.

We had our first market day here in central Maine this past Sunday. It was horrible weather, rainy and cool, but all the vendors were in fine spirits even though not much for customers. At our stand we had several varieties of lovely lettuce, two spinach varieties, asparagus, spring onions, garlic, 4 kinds of herbs, kale, rhubarb, orach, arugula, radishes, and cut flowers. Another vegetable grower had gorgeous rainbow chard among other things. Then the vendors with meats, cheeses, eggs, pies, etc... great stuff. I took 8 bags of letttuce mix that didn't sell to the food pantry this morning.

I'm buying... not selling. I really love how long this stuff lasts in comparison to grocery store produce

Hi Mike There is nothing tastier than fresh pulled carrots. Of any vegetable i think there is the biggest difference between shop bought carrots and home grown carrots.

Hi Amna My garlic is now over hand high as well. I planted it a bit earlier than normal this year, but it seems to have appreciated it. I,m looking forward to some large bulbs next year. I hope your foggy weather has now cleared!
