We have a friend stationed in Tampa....I think it's a joint forces command.

We are about 15 miles from Jacksonville, we prefer to live in the country vs. living with nothing but Marines for neighbors. I am going to miss it....

We have moved so much I lost track, and my husbands family just sends all our Christmas cards to his dad who then forwards them to us....they can't keep up with the address changes either!! We know we will have a house with a back patio (yippee, just put some pretty planters out back and no one will care!!!) It's the front that's depressing.....the soil is mostly sand so nothing, even the grass wants to grow and they have to put down copious amounts of nasty stuff (it's on a landscaping contract, we don't have to maintain the grassy areas) so I have to worry about drift to my plants.

Where is your nephew stationed? We are currently at Lejeune in NC, but we have a 14 acre chunk of land in Tennessee...

Ann,

Thanks for commenting on my page. I was raised on collards and they have become a major part of my life. Next fall, I'm going to try my best to grow them well.

How far are you from Nashville? 2 hours?

Hi Ann! Welcome to KGI. Our website administrator, Ian, is on holiday, so I'm filling in as official greeter until his return. I hope you'll find this site to your liking. Just look around, read other people's pages and comments, and dive right in with comments of your own. Folks here enjoy sharing their knowledge of gardening, as well as laughter and stories about their lives. Check out the blogs, forum discussions, and the many wonderful photos! If you have any questions please leave a comment on my page. I'll do my best to help. Ian will be back December 1.

Welcome, and have fun!

KG Day - Help us choose a date!

Kitchen Garden Day has traditionally been celebrated at the end of August which is a great time for gardens in temperate, northern climates but not a great time for many other gardeners around the world (e.g. August is winter in the southern hemisphere, monsoon season in India, too hot for many gardeners in southern states, etc.).

We're exploring the possibility of changing the date to the spring and would like your input. Please answer our poll here.

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.

Hi Everyone,  I've started to collect together recipes from various posts on the site and put them all together here.

If you have a recipe you want to add on here, just post it on the site and leave a comment on my page telling me where it is and I'll go and fetch it back here.

They are organised in Contributor Order but I'm open to better suggestions!
