Hi there. I was watching the video you just posted, "How to Make Tomato Pie," and I thought it was familiar. It's identical to the video you added in November '08, "Cooking Fresh: Tomato Pie". Maybe you don't remember posting the first one. I enjoyed the video the first time I saw it. Very helpful. Since the original video is still there, do we really need a second copy? Just asking.

Wow - you're a busy person - I don't drop by for a minute or two and you got all this new stuff posted... I'm writing my review of Pollan's Defense of Food and I've got Kitchen Literacy on my to be read bookshelf. So many books, so little time! david

I saw that Kitchen Literacy clip on your page which intrigued me - I'll have to look into it. Right now, my "to be read" stack is coming on par with the top of a bookshelf and I live in earthquake country! So much to read and so little time!

I put up the review I did of Winne's book, Closing the Food Gap, on 'our' Urban Farmers group. so that's two reviews to read; I read a lot. And I write a lot too. You know, I got to be careful - they may be just words, but you never know what they'll get you... :-)

Wait! You interviewed Michael Pollan? I'm just reading the book and am hoping to do a review of it soon. I've loved most of what he's written since Botany of Desire.

Director's Journal: Organic Foods: Backyard Agriculture

Director's Journal

It’s no easy task being a farmer. What makes it even more challenging these days is to find affordable land in the first place. I hear frequent stories along these lines from those just starting out, and, from those who have been farming for awhile. The veteran farmers shake their heads and say something has to change if we’re going to rely on getting our food locally… Continue

Director's Journal: The Grape Grower

My backyard came with a grape vine. It was winter when I moved in, and I had no idea what type of grape it was. Canes were stretching their arms out and under it all I found an old gnarly trunk. Never having a grape vine before, I left it alone, figuring, if I was lucky, I’d get some grapes at the end of summer.

Sure enough, some of the most delicious seedy Concord grapes emerged. My family ate them up. The 2 youngest complained of the seeds, but every… Continue

Michael Pollan: In Defense of Food, part 2

Could it possibly be, our conceptions for eating, and our understanding of foods, have gone terribly awry? In this segment, Michael Pollan talks about how we (Americans) have come to view food through the lens of nutritionism, not only focused upon the good and bad nutrients within foods, the value of eating being largely seen from the health perspective. As Mr. Pollan aptly reminds us, there are a number of other compelling reasons for eating whole foods.

Director's Journal: Community Egg Co-op

I’ve been wanting to do a story on eggs for quite awhile, so when Deborah Kane, of Ecotrust Food & Farms, told me about the Eastside Egg project, I almost became giddy. Yay! Chickens and eggs!

It's very cool how serendipity played into this coming together. Patrick and Holly, previous chicken owners themselves, belong to a… Continue

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
