My husband does a lot of grilling, and his favorite herb from the garden is rosemary. I have one large plant at the end of a path next to my daylilies. (I believe in an edible landscape, so I have herbs and veggies all over the yard -- wherever so...

Have to agree with 2 of the suggestions here -- coffee grounds and egg shells. Both will keep the slugs away. Also, the Starbuck's in Johnson City will leave their coffee grounds outside the backdoor for gardeners to take. Check to see if some of ...

I sell herbs, mints, and perennials at the Johnson City Farmers Market. This was my first year. I didn't do great, but I've learned a lot and know I will do better next year. Lotta work, but I love it. Have met some really great people, too. The J...

Most of us shop at farmers' markets and/or sell our produce there. Let's talk about it. Let's talk about where the markets are, the best and the worst of them, what products are selling for, what we sell, and how we price it.

I would like this group to focus on kitchen herb gardens, be they culinary or medicinal. What do you grow, what do you use it for, do you make any medicinal products from your herbs?

Welcome!! It is always exciting to connect with other gardeners. I'm glad you are finding ones near you.

The Tennesseans at KGI have a group called Kitchen Gardeners TN. We would love to have you join.

I am in Nashville, but have gardened in Oregon and Illinois in the past. Right not I am busy planting/tending my fall/winter gardening and trying to get a handle on all the weeds that took over my garden during this rainy summer.

Welcome to KGI.
I had family living in Stelby Ridge, N.C. we drove over to Johnson City, TN. to eat.
What I saw of the area was nice.

Hi Dena, I've lived here just over 1 year. I usually go to the Jonesborough Farmers Market. I'll try to stop by the one in JC tomorrow. I'm in the storytelling program at ETSU and last year I did very little besides school work. My focus won't be as narrow this fall. I'm thinking of having my lawn mowing guy build a raised bed so I can have a small garden, mostly flowers and herbs, I think. A few decades ago I took a workshop called "edible landscaping," in Occidental CA. Where do you get good lobster in Johnson City?

I loved Jamie Oliver's show too. I wish there was a show with his gardener!!! In fact I wrote HGTV (owned by the same people as food network) and told them so. Would like to have the outdoor oven.

My son always have these kinds of encounters with nature. He takes the caterpillars from the plants where they are exposed to birds and keep them in small boxes, feeds them with leaves, and when they become butterflies frees them in the garden.

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
