Thanks for your comment on my garden. It has nice raised beds and a fence to keep out the many deer and the groundhogs. It was fairly neglected the past two years because of family illness but I hoping to have a productive vegetable garden this year and lots of flowers around the outside of the fence for pleasure. I hang flower baskets on the gate end in summer and that is just an extra delight.

I lived in Florida for about a year and a half in the Orlando area. Loved it except for the hurricanes got hit by 3 in the same year LOL :) Decided to move back to Georgia.

How nice! It is a beautiful language- very soft and lilting. I never learned how to write in tengwar. It seems to be made for right handers and I am left handed. I am pleased to meet you, Entwife. Namaire, meldanya! (Farewell, my friend- minus the accents. The AllChars is not installed in this PC, so I can't put in the accents!)

I recommend lots of mulch at the root. I have had problems with squash borers, and the much helps. Also side dressing with manure is good. Don't be too impressed ... each squash was about 40 lbs!

Entwife, you must be a Tolkien fan. Do you study the Elvish languages? I have been trying to learn Quenya. It is very cahllenging, but provides me with something to do during the long New England winters.

It's a hybrid squash. ... my Bangladesh garden neighbors called it giant Asian squash and gave me some seeds. I ended up with at least 250 pounds of sweet, orange-fleshed squash similar to butternut. The soup was phenomenal. What we didn't eat will go to the worms :)

I don't get the food channel, only free TV, so the cooking shows I watch at home are on PBS -- Lidia's Italy, the Scandinavian chefs who cook outdoors, Mario Batali and Mark Bittman cruising through Spain with Gwyneth Paltrow and a Spanish actress...

I loved Jamie Oliver's show too. I wish there was a show with his gardener!!! In fact I wrote HGTV (owned by the same people as food network) and told them so. Would like to have the outdoor oven.

I've found the same happening in my mind too. Always looking at the place veggies or fruit is from in the grocery store, and if it's stuff that can be grown local but is out of season I generally avoid it, or if it's in season I'll get it from the...

My son always have these kinds of encounters with nature. He takes the caterpillars from the plants where they are exposed to birds and keep them in small boxes, feeds them with leaves, and when they become butterflies frees them in the garden.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
