That's good news, Jess. We're getting that weather on Sunday; sunny 40's. CAN'T WAIT! It's been bitter cold here.
My seeds are on the way from Fedco. My next job is to thaw out the soil in the raised beds enough to send a sample to our state coop extension. Black plastic oughta do it.
I've been reading a lot about starting seeds; there are the super fanatical types, and then there are these laid back types who say that seeds will germinate with less than optimum conditions; it just takes more time. Good you're starting now, given that you have no heat :)

Did you get power back? I've been hearing stories today about people without water. Yikes! We had an ice storm up here about 10 yrs ago and we boiled snow for water for 7 days. I hope you're ok.

Dear Jess,
I'm SO sorry about Hoss and Bella. I'm glad you have pictures to cherish. And how is cute Rue? I bet he was VERY glad to have you home!!
I hope the move-out of your things goes ok this weekend.
I like the idea of the cold-frames. I don't think they have to be architectural wonders, just functional and funky. I don't know about you, but I'll be glad when I can dig into the earth again. We just got another dump load of snow/sleet (still coming). The piles are taller than I am. But hey, we live in Maine, so it's expected. Am glad to have heat and power; guess that's not the case for a lot of folks south of us.
Do you head out again soon? Make sure you let me know if you ever get sent up this way!
Take care,
Annie

Hi Jess,
Just thought I'd say hello. How are things? Have you had time to think about your garden yet? It's beginning to tug at me; but the ground won't really be ready for another 3 1/2 months. I placed my seed order today, though. Here in Maine, we had a spectacularly gorgeous day. The sky was that perfect robin's egg shade of blue, no clouds at all. Very cold, windy. But beautiful!!! I've been giving my two elderly "woofs" an aspirin twice a day, and the eldest, who's almost 14, was truly bouncy as we explored a snowy field down the road. Cute. The younger one, who's 10, is having a lot of trouble with incontinence. Our vet has us try estrogen (! yikes !) but it didn't work (I'm almost glad). Now we're trying Proin. So far not working. I'm sad for her; I know she doesn't feel good about it. RIght now she's konked out; my husband took her for a ferry ride out to Peaks Island where his mum lives; Maddy (the woof) loves going visiting to "Nana's"house; she gets lots of treats and sees lots of other dogs on the boat and island. And I'm in a happy place because for the first time in my 46 years I had someone come in and clean my house. And it's so perfect, for this moment. I know it won't last, but she's going to come every 2 wks to spruce it up; for me it's the floors that need the most help (incontinent dog, yup that would be a problem area).
Anyway, I hope you are doing well. Any resolution on Rue's parents?

Hi Jessica,
How are you doing? Your job sounds interesting; do you travel a lot? My ideal job would have me traveling to France every couple of weeks! And of course, it would pay bundles so I'd have money to spend on yummy things in the markets there. :)
I'll go back to my seed-starting book now. Lots to learn.

Wow, Jessica! I wish I could help. I'm really glad you have Rue. I just got back from a beach run with my dogs; well, I say run, but on leashes of course. There's still a lot of snow around but it's a beautiful sunny day otherwise and the ocean is very blue.
I sure hope you can get Rue's parents back soon. Meanwhile, yes, enjoy the day.

Yes, dogs and cats need a little help sometimes learning to "appreciate" each other; our two cats share the house with two huskies. I think it did help that the dogs always had cats, so new ones don't get eaten or chased. :)
How old is Rue--is he the dog in your photos? Cute! If he's a puppy, Jessica, I think you're gonna have a really big dog in your gardens!

Once again, I have to comment on the beautiful colorful photos! I love the one of your dog sitting on the deck with all the plants and flowers around. What kind of dog is he/she?
What people do you think we both know? This is too funny!

Your photos are so pretty! I love how many people on KGI include photos of their pets. My cat, Bubby, likes to sit under the flowers in one patch in my garden while I weed. He's usually on a leash because we're too close to the road to chance it, but he doesn't mind.
Your raised beds, with the teepee trellises are so beautiful!
Have you had snow? We're getting so much this year in Maine; giant flakes are falling right now that are forecast to add up to over a foot. Very nice for the holidays.
I look forward to seeing how your garden grows this summer. I'm already perusing the seed catalogs. Fun!

What lovely photos and you are truly a talented artistic gardener! I just joined and can see this is an awesome group of people. I also just added an herb group on here if you want to join.
