İ meant to add yesterday that it also teaches people to be more self reliant and that is a good thing.

Hi Joe looked at your web page and your 25 dollar garden idea is great - there is a seed company in Australia that sells a packet for the unemployed - they say it is enough to feed a family of four.

Hi Joe, I miss your show "Fresh From the Garden". I looked forward to it faithfully. Your show is the reason I started gardening with raised beds. Will it be on again this year?

Aww, man, I hate to hear that. I'm hoping to get out to the JC Raulston arboretum this afternoon and take some pictures. Hope all is well.

Hi Joe - Great website and you sure are one busy guy! I am a writer and a regular contributor for Herb Quarterly magazine - perhaps you have read some of my articles? My next one will be on Adaptogen Herbs and then on to Reviving the Victory Garden. I was lucky this past Summer to do a panel interview with five awesome herbalists: Susun Weed, Rosemary Gladstar, Gail Faith Edwards, Stephen Buhner and Christopher Hobbs!
Come on over and peek at my Back Yard Kitchen Herbalist group when you get a free moment.

Thanks Joe. The ants can live happily outside... but when they move into the house I have to take action. I think they are carpenters.. as we live in a very wooded area, and there are lots of them chewing up old pine stumps and trees. This spring I am going to trap some and take them to be identified. Meanwhile, I would appreciate any suggestions!!!
Sunny frosty day here!!! Bright blue sky!!! Love it!

Well, I can honestly say... I am one of those people who used to use chemicals, I admit it. But, I have realized that what I did was horribly wrong.
We have carpenter ants and I am trying everything under the sun to avoid nasty chemicals. Do you have any suggestions? I have tried the boric acid and sugar. That seemed to work until this past summer when we had 29 days of rain... plus the prior winter was very deep and protective snow that enabled the ants to thrive.

KG Day - Help us choose a date!

Kitchen Garden Day has traditionally been celebrated at the end of August which is a great time for gardens in temperate, northern climates but not a great time for many other gardeners around the world (e.g. August is winter in the southern hemisphere, monsoon season in India, too hot for many gardeners in southern states, etc.).

We're exploring the possibility of changing the date to the spring and would like your input. Please answer our poll here.

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
