The only way I've found to get rid of them naturally is to do to them what others have said, grub them out by the roots. I've got many out back, in the spring I do what I can before they leaf out, slowly I am winning the battle back there, but the b…

This isn't eaxactly "green" ...but I would take them down to the ground with a chain saw or a weed whacker. Then spray some variety of "kill all" into the exposed stems. That should work for a year or so - problem is - there will still be live roots…

The roses have taken over the area behind the barn and are very tall. I must deal with them before the city makes me do do. These are wild roses. Also I would like to plant there as well. Thanks Larry

you don't like roses? explain.

Larry, I do not have a spray but I get rid of unwanted roses with a grub hoe. First I cut the rose off close to the ground then I go after the root with the grub hoe. What I call a grub hoe is like pick ax but it has a wide flat blade on both sides…

I need some help in figuring out how to kill wild roses with all natural things. I am thinking that if I can change the PH of the plant I can decide to make it healthy or turbinate it. Any Ideals?? Thanks Larry

Sorry, I didn't know, where and how to answer to you!

Delete Comment What a difficult question! I wanted to have a selfsufficiency farm and only sell the overage. But then my husband retired and we separated, means income wasn't sufficient any longer, 5 kids on university. I tried to run the farm on regular basis. But my production is too small, I can't cope with modern marketing structures and can't even sell 9 ready fed up pigs. It's no hobby not to survive, it's no income neither. If ever I could sell another realty for to pay back the credit of the solar pannels, I could live from the income of PV and return to hobby farming, and my two pigs Lilly, Heike and husband Hutz would be as glad as me.

Hi Larry Steele, welcome to KGI. I'm sure you'll find the site interesting, we're a pretty friendly bunch. You'll find all manner of discussions in the forum (follow the link in the top navigation bar) and there is also a notes section where I can put stuff that may be of interest to members. At the moment there are one or two "how to" articles and a whole range of recipes. (follow the notes link)
If there is anything I can do then please, just leave a message on my page.

KG Day - Help us choose a date!

Kitchen Garden Day has traditionally been celebrated at the end of August which is a great time for gardens in temperate, northern climates but not a great time for many other gardeners around the world (e.g. August is winter in the southern hemisphere, monsoon season in India, too hot for many gardeners in southern states, etc.).

We're exploring the possibility of changing the date to the spring and would like your input. Please answer our poll here.

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
