Hi Joy, I was up really late the other night, thus the silly post, tired and punchy. Anyway, we are pals with our neighbors, and like each other just fine, and swap food with them in harvest times. But, running a Food Not Lawns chapter, we tend to m…

Hi Joy, I've never made cheese before, but I love Swiss the best, except I want to learn to make it with no holes so's I gets more cheese. Maybe just one hole for carrying purposes would be OK. Can you help? Thanks for the invite, McPete.

Hi. I was looking at the new pictures you posted, and decided to visit your page. I've been looking at all your photos, and your work is so impressive! I applaud you and your wife for being so consciencious, and for creating for others what you are creating for yourselves. Is being a suburban small plot farmer working out for you? Are there many in your area who want what you are doing?

I have lived most of my life in rural areas. When I did live "in town" no one seemed interested in gardening vegetables, only flowers. When I was at university, there was a community veggie garden on campus for staff and instructors. I've always thought that was a great idea. I was blessed to be invited to share in one person's gardening efforts. I've never forgotten that. I know your work must be bringing blessings to many.

Brussels sprouts are a favorite of mine too! Best gardening wishes! mwf

Hi, I saw on Front Yard Gardeners that you are part of a Food Not Lawns Chapter. I'm looking to start something similar to it but perhaps more just inspired by it and was wondering if you would share some lessons learned, etc? See my post on Front Yard Gardeners - I started a discussion there.

Nice to hear from you.
It`s winter here and pritty grotty weather at the moment. Rain, gales, damp and misreable. Nothing will grow much now until I start seedlings off again end of Feb./March time.

Your garden looks amazing.
Your ideas about your business are great, and I wish you all the success in this world. Shame there isn`t someone like you in my neighbourhood. I`d love to have someone come and maintain a veggie garden for me. I just have to dig myself, I guess and hope to have some veg growing whenever I find time to tend to it.
Best of luck to you and happy harvesting your own.

Wonderful! The drums bring heart to life! We did a drumming circle Saturday night with one other friend (normally there are 6 or more, but we felt the call and need- short notice). Our circle is done on a improv basis, and each person is free to create the sounds that their heart needs in the moment... voice included. It is a great way to open up the chakras and create energy flow.

My passion, other than gardening, is working with the Sacred Medicine Wheel.. the reason your wife's stone arrangement caught my eye. If you are not familiar, you can google "Dancing with the Wheel" and that will give you some sort of a clue as to what I mean. Each Wheel is personal and designed to fit the need of the community of individual. If this is anything she has interest in, I'd be honored to chat with her about it.

18 inches of fluffy snow here today... beautiful clear sky... will be a pretty day!

Hi
we have this past year replaced our swimming pool with a veg garden - swapped it online for sand to fill the hole. We did replace the pool with a small portable pool in the driveway area as the summers here are really getting hot and the kids do love to swim.

The result is an amazing veg garden, you can see pics on my page. We are striving for self sufficiency and this is a challenge as we do not have a large plot. The big challenge is to use all the sunny vertical spaces as possible.

Yeah it is, they barely look real, huh? You can get them by hanging up a white sheet and shining a compact florescent + a blacklight on it. The moths in the vicinity will come land on the sheet for your photographing pleasure. In my area, April - June is the best time for luna moths.

Hi Letti Thanks for the info about the contaminated manure. I have not bought manure now for several years in the UK. This was since we had the foot & mouth and BSE scares. I think that municipal compost is your best bet, if you need to say bulk up…

Hi Kirsti I think the dingy idea seems feasable. Then the plants would be out of the way of day to day activities. Have you seen Margy,s floating garden pictures. Yours would be a variation on that theme.

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
