forever!
Dream garden travel destination:
The world is a Garden!
Favorite foods:
asparagus, cherries, salmon, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, blueberries, nuts...
Do you garden in your yard that is less than 1/2 acre? Do you enjoy flowers, sweet smelling Iris' and lilacs, pop sweet cherry tomatoes in your mouth fresh from your garden, pick your own cherries and make a pie or enjoy watching your child bent over picking strawberries;eating more than goes in the basket?!!! on a warm summer morning do you grab cup of tea/coffee, newspaper and head for your favorite lawn chair in your garden to bask in the peacefulness until a buejay perches on the trellis squawking his greeting? Sound different or wonderful?

If this sounds wonderful to you, then you know how I feel in my garden! I am interested in conversing with likeminded gardeners who live and enjoy a bighearted garden in a smaller space.

Sorry forgot the main reason İ was leaving a comment. İ used a large jar and just took the scum off with a spoon every now and then, İ was careful not to moved the sediment on the bottom. İt tasted divine. İ made only a little and we drank that fairly promptly. İf İ was storing it İ would put it in a bottle with a screw cap.

İ have also been interested in elderberries but never had a source. My father once made some wine with them, İ dont know how he did it, it was sparkling and tasted ok. İ am sure you could find recipes online for those.

Hi Pamela , just saw your reply when you were talking about mulberries. Yes long time ago but İ just saw it. İ am in Turkey at the moment and they make a wonderful thing out of mulberries. You need alot of mulberries to do it. They squeeze the juice out of the mulberries, you can do this through some cheese cloth. You take the liquid and boil it until it thickens, time will depend on your stove etc but have it at a high heat and keep checking it. İt will become thicker, the longer you boil it the thicker it gets so make it as thick as a sugar syrup. The turks use this as a tonic for anything, they say it is good for your blood. İt is lovely as a syrup or straight. İ also made some mulberry wine once, squeezed out the juice, kept it in a container and kept taking the scum of the surface of the juice. After 6 months İ opened it and it had become a wonderful thick liquer.

Thank you Pam, for your compliment in the chicken feed conversation. You're very kind. I have a feeling you're quite knowledgeable yourself.

I can certainly understand how you feel about your garden. I consider mine a refuge. Not as peaceful as I'd like - I have too many dogs vying for my attention when I'm outdoors. But I love being out among the plants. If it ever stops raining around here, and we can get the grass mowed, I'll be outside in my lawn chair, sipping a cold drink and watching the chickens!

Hey Pamela,
How about a picture for the MG group. I notice that we are the only group sans picture. Maybe a MG logo though they vary by state or just a nice garden snapshot

The large plant is some type of amaranth, don't know what as the seed was given to me without identification. It produces many seedlings, grows tall and colorful in a short time, the leaves are tinged with red too, so it is a colorful background plants. The stuff growing up the roof I have no idea. Would appreciate it if someone could identify it for me. .

You did not offend me at all, how could you know.
I know geese are great, but we have enough trouble protecting those chickens from the many foxes. Last year they broke into the hen house and ate all the hens only the rooster could escape. He fell into a 4 meter deep hole behind the house. Can you imagine my husband having to take that furious rooster out of that hole ( the owner is too old to do such things) But it was a clever trick of the rooster, he certainly was safe down there, we had to search for him three days.
(I am staying far too long on the internet tonight)

I did a search for rose of sharon bush, that's the hibiscus I grow all over my garden. Oh they are so beautiful, I love them.
Now guess what, we have 2 roosters here, that means my sister in law's husband keeps them plus 3 hens. They neither bother to go further into the field than 10 meters around the house nor am I very keen on them . First of all because I am not in favor of keeping animals for human consumption and second I can't stand the chickens leaving their 'droppings' all over the place and one of the roosters is a real coward anyway. I think we have to find other means to keep strangers out. The thing is that there are wild blackberries growing all along the hedges and they don't even mind those with all their thorns!
Clematis! Please don't mention them, they grow wild here and are a horrible weed, if not cut they completely cover a tree in one year. No, I know there are some really lovely ones, my grandpa used to have a purple one, very beautiful. They go well with roses.
