It is called VITA-MIX not MAX. I have one of them. So you don't have a food sealer you can recommend then? Jean

Yes, Jean, I am referring to the VitaMax BLENDER, as an aid to preservation by sealing machine by preparing items for storage, which is another jump I made as this thread is about preservation by sealing machines. Apologies. I am not very clear whe…

Oh. You mentioned it in the same breath, so I thought that's what you were trying to say. I cannot find the VITAMAX online, by the way. Are you referring to a vacuum sealer or do you mean the VITAMIX blender? Jean

I don't know about vacuum packing ice cream. I am making an "ice cream" version with bananas and honey that is just like dairy but Waaaay healthier FOR EATING. Since it is so easy to prepare and eat now, I had not thought about preserving in anyway…

That's great information too. Thanks. Can you actually vacuum pack ice cream? Jean

Excellent referral to Foodsaver Pro Sport. Thanks David. I have bought a VitaMax - went in 50/50 with a friend. Got a great deal and a number of other items thrown in, extra due to slow sales there. Got the full package. $200 apiece. Think from th…

Www.vacuumsealerguide.com is an online book that has been enlightening and useful to me, I think it cost $ 9.95 when I purchased it. You tube- foodsaver has a wealth of useful information about vacuum sealing food and other items. I use a Foodsaver…

Hello all, I have a vacuum packer and do really like the way it preserves food...a suggestion on the chilies and tomatoes to save space...if you have one of those older big granite ware roasting pans (you know the big black oval ones). I pick my t…

Is there any chance of borrowing your husband, please? (LOL). I was interested to read about his invention. Will he be marketing it, and would it cost a lot? Is there anything on the market at the moment for freeze-drying that the ordinary person co…

I was interested to read the blog about vacuum packing food. I am only now looking into this. I am trying to find out two things (maybe three) (1) what is a good, efficient brand of vacuum sealing machines (2) what items can be vacuum packing withou…

Robert or Bob?

Sounds like you have the ideal way of learning gardening - direct and active, from one who knows - doesn't get better than that!

The poisonous compounds in Oleander do break down when composted, according to research done at UC Davis - however they didn't distinguish between Thermophylic and cold composting. The only difference is probably time. So you didn't poison your compost pile, but its best to make sure all the oleander parts are completely composted.

We live south of LC proper in the county near old Dona Ana - its an old subdivision started in the 80s, so we have a 1/3 acre lot on the east side just above the valley bottom - great gardening soil (in my opinion)

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the note and good to hear from another SW gardener. From your introductions piece it sounds like you are having a wonderful gardening season, and are obviouly ready to do fall and winter (the easy season here)

Curious to hear more about how you know my sister and about the size and scope of your gardens.

Welcome to the KG group - there is a New Mexico group - not very active, but at least access to other folks gardening in the SW.

Hi Letti Thanks for the info about the contaminated manure. I have not bought manure now for several years in the UK. This was since we had the foot & mouth and BSE scares. I think that municipal compost is your best bet, if you need to say bulk up…

Hi Kirsti I think the dingy idea seems feasable. Then the plants would be out of the way of day to day activities. Have you seen Margy,s floating garden pictures. Yours would be a variation on that theme.

HOW TO - ADD A LINK

Several people have experienced difficulty putting working links into comments and blogs etc and I know it is clumsy.... so here is how you do it.....

First type the text you want to appear....  ie  IAN'S PAGE

Then go back and highlight the link text.

Then hit the hyperlink button...a pictogram of a chain link.

Your browser may intervene and request permission to allow temporary scripting or some similar message.   Allow it and go back and highlight the text again

Forum Policy

Hi, I'm starting to put together a few guidlines on using the discussion forum on here.

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
