Ok, so I found the HOLY GRAIL of non-poisonous ant riddance! I second the fact that ants generally aren't bad, and one should leave them alone. However, there are a couple varieties that can cause gardening problems. Here in Sweden, there are smal...

Put ant bait at the foot of the tree and my nursery has double sided ant tape to wrap around the tree at the bottom and top of the trunk. Ants in a tree ARE a cause for concern. Where I live, we have carpenter ants that will happily eat and, event...

Check for aphids, if yu don't see any I wouldn't worry about the ants. I have noticed many times the ants tracking around in the pollen actually helps some plants produce fruit, especially if they aren't many bees around, my peppers always seem to...

well, if the ants are going to flowers, the aphid theory is probably correct. to get rid of aphids, use soapy water in a spray bottle, grab one of those fertilizer sprayer bottles you can attach to your house and add soap instead of fertilizer and...

You sound so excited! I'm so happy for you. And I'm jealous! You have a lime tree!! And you're going to grow mangos! You've really got the gardening bug now! Good for you!

You haven't joined any groups yet, and I really recommend you join a few. Start with the Orchards group. I started last week, and it's a good one. Good for you since you are growing trees now! Look through the group choices. You'll find several to join, I'm sure.

Keep up the good work!

So how's your garden doing? Have those tiny green tomatoes on that one plant turned red yet? I'm excited to hear how things are going for you. As Ed said below, don't get discouraged if something goes wrong. Even the best gardeners experience failures. That's how we learn. But I know you're doing well. I can feel it! Give us a blog and tell us how it's going. I'll look forward to reading it. Best gardening wishes! mwf

Hi Stacey. The best way to start gardening is to just do it, and you're off to a great start! When it comes to gardening, the best teacher is experience. Nothing like getting your hands dirty! Best wishes!

Hi Stacey! Welcome to KGI. I just discovered something that will help your tomato plant, you might want to watch this:

How to Cage your tomatoes

Those little tomato cages from the garden center just AREN"T enough. They need support, even a cherry like you planted needs a cage. You can also try staking them, the only problem with that is it has a tendency of squishing the plant (never works for me).

If you plant more tomatoes, you might want to check this out:

How to grow better tomatoes. Good luck!

I think this might need it's own category, don't you? Tomatoes are one of the most popular things to grow and we've been placing them in all kinds of groups, but the fact is we almost all grow them, and they have specific needs.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
