My sister raises chickens and she told me the same thing Clarence did. The breeds are bred to increase meat development. They get top heavy. They do look kind of funny when their growth gets away from them. They get used to the extra weight and st...

Suzie, What breed are we talking here? Some of the faster growing ''meat'' birds will grow so fast they take these mini naps. I have seen cockrels a few weeks old square off to fight... jump in the air to ''spur'' each other and both combatants b...

does anyone know what is wrong with chickens that all of the sudden start losing their balance. it's like their drunk and just fall backwards on their backs. they then lay there for a little bit and all of the sudden flip over and get up like if n...

yes my chickens are free ranged and I have started giving them table scraps which they do love. when they see me coming they all head for their coops knowing that they will be getting treats. They are so much fun to raise.

If your chickens are free ranging they get most of what they need, as do mine. For grain I just buy a bag of wheat and a bag of sunflower seeds.... if you only have a few chickens like I do (3) it is nice to buy organic wheat which is readily avai...

Thanks for this post Suzie. I think it's very interesting to know what color eggs certain chickens lay, as that seems to matter to many back yard chicken owners. It would be nice to have a post about which chickens produce what size eggs. I'm sure...

Lil Ms. Butterscotch is very spoiled to boot - she is spoon fed daily. My other Cocker, Oprah, had a litter of nine but we have lost two puppies. I have blacks and black and white partis from that litter. I could not resist keeping this little gem though - Cockers are like potato chips, you can't stop at just one :)

Those are Rhode Island Red chickens, New Hampshire Red chickens as well as Barnevelders, Welsummers, Buckeyes, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Black Breasted Red Cubalayas, Black Shamos, Buff… Continue

Hello Glenn, I sow seeds for tomatoes sometimes in September. The plants live for 2 years, but it is advisable to replace them after one year.

Hi Muhammad You have a great garden, the soil looks quite sandy, but it must be very fertile. If your tomatoes grow all year round, what time of year do you sow your seeds and how long do the plants live?

I would be happy to hear any comments you may have.  This is very much a work in progress so plese feel free to ask me to add anything you think is needed.

I don't want to make our community hide bound by rules and regulations but I think that, as the community has grown, some explanation of what is expected is needed.
